I think it's a '94 or a '95. Update: a '92 or '93, actually. Just has the taillights from a later car. Not a turbo, but still very cool. These are way smaller in person than you would imagine.
I wish modern Toyota would make something crazy like this mid-engine I-4 T-top!

Well, Toyota made the Lexus LS 600h... Hybrid luxury car with 4wd can't be seen as normal?

It's a 92 or 93 non-turbo with the tail lights from the 94+ cars. Probably an SW21 as it's in north America with the USDM tail light side markers, that engine lid was on all the non-turbo models.
I can tell its age from the 3 piece wing and the 15" wheels. Nice and clean.

And they also made the LFA and all the crazy F-sport Lexuses (lexi?) but the Toyota brand is such a snoozefest these days, unless you're in a market where they sell the GT86 as a Toyota.

I saw a W11 today actually, pretty cool.

Wow... I figured out the engine lid thing but did not catch the wing/taillight discrepancy. And yeah, it was really clean.

I AM IN A MARKET where they sell the GT86 as a Toyota. And we have the Auris Sports Tourer.
And my stepdad drives a GS 450h F-sport :P (and a Landcruiser V8)

as someone who drives one that looks almost exactly like this daily, it is about exactly as small as I imagine. I wanna say it's a 93 N/A with 94 taillights. Engine lid and exhaust say N/A, rims and wing say 93. Fully optioned N/A though, most don't have the fog lights.
Also, might have been a typo but its SW20.

Never seen one, but I have seen the newer 3rd gen ones a few times and they are also very cool.

Ok you win XD

I've had MR2's for 8 years now so I'm pretty good at picking the differences :P
![]() 08/06/2014 at 23:27 |

Oh. For some reason I thought SW20 was only for the soft-top ones, but I guess not.
![]() 08/06/2014 at 23:28 |

Nah mate.. THIS guy win, MR2 with a radial engine (yup, from a friggin plane).
![]() 08/06/2014 at 23:28 |

Wikipedia says W20 as they go off the chassis code without the engine letter.
..but we know everyone who owns one calls them the AW11, the SW20 and
the other one.

technically running by the first digits in the Vin they are sw21s, the soft tops 90s ones are a conversion done by technocraft and are quite rare and JDM market only. I don't know the chassis code for the spyders from 00 or so and up, everyone is always like "adub, sdub, spyder"
![]() 08/06/2014 at 23:38 |

Wiki calls them W30s but all I've ever heard is spyders, yeah..

im still waiting to see who does a 1KZ-TE swap first. There is going to be one crazy chumpcar or lemons racer who wants to do it!
![]() 08/06/2014 at 23:40 |
|
exactly. Though I kinda like the zzw30's.. they handle better than any of the previous gens.
![]() 08/06/2014 at 23:41 |

ZW30, thats it. 1ZZ's are trash though, I want to burn my wife's vibe to the ground instead of work on it. 2zz though, now thats not bad.
![]() 08/06/2014 at 23:42 |

Hehe.. have you seen this?
What I'd REALLY wanna see as swap is the engine from a Viper in an old japanese or european old car :)
![]() 08/06/2014 at 23:43 |

they will out handle a goddamn housefly. Stuff a 2GR or gen4 in one and watch it fly. I saw a K20 swapped one that had "LSJUAN" written on the valve cover. And its probably faster than 95% of mr2s on the road.

MS63 Toyota Crown 8 seat wagon with the new Tundra V8 and a blower or a first gen celica with a full alltrac swap and gen4 is my dream.

Isn't there a 1ZZ in the Lotus elise? (Full disclosure: I totally only know that from Regular Car reviews)
![]() 08/06/2014 at 23:48 |
|
the lotus weighs so little an athsmatic hamster could give it a pretty good power to weight ratio, but I think its a 2zz. Newer ones get the 2GR.

I've seen that article on the powder blue w30 with the K20 turbo, and the 600hp K20 SW20 ... but I don't think I've seen the LSJUAN build.
a 2GR swap is a long held daydream of mine.. I'm pretty happy with my 3SGTE though so I'll only swap it if it dies un-expectantly. Donor cars are getting pretty cheap though..

I've got no idea what you're talking about, so I'll just post this as an answer...
![]() 08/06/2014 at 23:53 |

Oh apparently they had both the 1 and 2. The 1 was probably in the '90s elise that nobody talks about.
![]() 08/07/2014 at 00:05 |

Looks like a '94 non-turbo. The engine lid isn't raised, so it's not turbo. It has the larger 15" wheels, so it's not a 91/92. I think '94's got rid of the lower rear grille, but I could be remembering that backwards. It has 95/96 USDM tail lights, because JDMs don't have the red section on the signals. Plus the wing isn't the 95/96 version.
Love these things and I used to know everything about them, but sadly I never got to own one.

I saw my very first one in person about a week ago. They are relatively rare to see around my area I guess

pretty rare in NYC, too.

the 2GR is nice, but I LOVE my gen4

Mmmmmmmm pretty
![]() 08/07/2014 at 19:21 |

not a 94, wing changed that year. Lower rear grille is on all !r2s, !any people remove them. 91-93 tail lights for usdm market, they were not imported past 95.

ballsey really...
![]() 08/07/2014 at 19:41 |

well considering that the 5 series parked behind it is probably worth way more... not sure it's too ballsy to park it on the street if that's what you meant.

were you the Oppo that went through Prime? I think we may have discussed engine swaps already :P
![]() 08/07/2014 at 21:13 |

considering a few dings is enough to almost total it, I still say ballsey
![]() 08/07/2014 at 21:17 |

probably, I will talk your ear off about it.
